Our Charity

Angel On A Leash, a therapy dog program created by The Westminster Kennel Club just three years ago, has quickly become a wonderful success as it touches the lives of many people in need.

Therapy dogs have been shown to help reduce stress and enhance the healing process for patients in a variety of settings. While dog owners everywhere probably understand intuitively how this happens – promoting smiles, conversation and positive emotional responses – now, scientific studies are confirming those beliefs.

Interaction between the patient, family members and staff with the dog and its human partner have been found to help lower blood pressure and heart rate, and help to motivate patients during physical therapy.

In New York City, Angel On A Leash volunteer teams visit pediatric patients at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian and the Ronald McDonald House of New York City. Recently, the Child Care Center at the Providence Health System in Portland, Oregon, has become a part of the program, and many other organizations from all over the country will soon be added, as well.

Delta Society, New York’s Good Dog Foundation, and the ASPCA provide the training for special dogs and their human partners to become qualified for Angel On A Leash. To learn more about Angel On A Leash, call (212) 213-3212 or e-mail david@angelonaleash.com.
